Classroom Guidance
(Second Step)

The learning curriculum for the classroom guidance lessons are done through Second Step. Second Step is a social-emotional learning (SEL) program that helps children and adults develop skills to manage emotions, build relationships, and make responsible decisions. The program is used in classrooms from preschool through grade 12 and is designed to help students:

  • Get along with others
  • Identify and understand their own and others’ emotions
  • Choose positive goals
  • Manage reactions when emotionally triggered
  • Solve problems
  • Work together

Individual Counseling
Adults and student sitting around a desk talking.

In the individual setting, I work with students on a one-on-one basis, addressing academic, social, emotional, and personal issues that may be hindering their success in school. Through individual counseling sessions, I can help students explore their thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies for stress or anxiety, set goals for themselves, and navigate difficult situations such as bullying or friendship problems.

Group Sessions / Skills

Groups are a form of counseling that can be very beneficial for students with similar needs. During groups we learn to communicate, understand others feelings, and work on skills to help out in the classroom or at home. Activities in groups include things like art therapy, play therapy, and social emotional games and activities.
